Founded in July 2011 by Mike Darlington and Ari Paunonen. (Vancouver, Canada)

Since 2021, Monstercat has been divided into three main brands (imprints), each of which is responsible for a specific mood and genres.:

Uncaged: Energetic and aggressive music. Main genres: Dubstep, Drum & Bass, Bass House, Trap.

Instinct: Melodic and pop-oriented music. Main genres: Future Bass, House, Indie Dance, Electro-pop.

Silk: Emotional and atmospheric music. Main genres: Progressive House, Deep House, Trance, Chillout. (elektrobeats - silk)


The label's status has changed since 2025. For a long time, Monstercat was one of the most successful independent labels in the world, but now the situation looks like this.
Takeover. In May 2025, Monstercat was acquired by the American media company Create Music Group.
