It’s been a productive year for Discosteps, with this Salted label debut appearing on the back of well-regarded singles and EPs for Moiss Music Black, Soul Beach and Tru Musica. The French producer shows his form from the off, teasing us on to the dancefloor via the classy nu-disco-meets-disco-house fusion of rubbery and celebratory opener ‘Lost’. He steps it up further on title track ‘Variations’, a wonderfully deep and drowsy chunk of West Coast deep house that includes some attractive piano riffs, reverb-laden female vocal snippets and a groove so good you might want to go to bed with it. ‘Infected’, a chunky, bass-heavy slab of disco-house cheeriness with lashings of bass-propelled funk, completes a fine EP.
