Beringei - Without You

Beringei’s first outing on WotNot Music, summer 2019’s The People, The Place, was a bit of a slept-on gem – a fine three-tracker that expertly joined the dots between dub disco, Afro-fired broken beat and soft-focus future soul. There’s a similar fusion feel to this similarly inspired follow-up. Opener ‘Piece of Mind’ is utterly delicious, with Beringei crafting a warming deep house jam out of live instrumentation (bass guitar, electric piano, spacey synths etc) and the hazy, loved-up vocals of Andres Alcover. William Florele adds his effortlessly soulful vocals to title track ‘Without You’, a deep and spacey broken beat treat, while closing cut ‘Hearts (Our Love)’ is a dusty chunk of downtempo drowsiness heavily influenced by stoned instrumental hip-hop.
