Phenomena opens 2024 with a new EP from label boss Elias Erium. Following on from a strong 2022 campaign, Montreal resident Elias Erium had an equally successful 2023. Beginning with February's 'Wander', the Canadian artist would go on to release a series of well-received EP's via Phenomena, a cluster of projects that continued to demonstrate and build on his penchant for sophisticated sound design and memorable musical themes. Perhaps most noteworthy was year ender 'Echoes', a five-track showcase commemorating Phenomena's five-year anniversary. Unique in inception, the release would tactfully tie the roots of previous alias Solid Stone, with the current contemporary sounds of the Erium moniker, in turn forging a path into the future. Now, looking to stretch his creative boundaries further as 2024 takes shape, Elias returns to his home of Phenomena with 'Follow the Signal'. Beginning with 'Follow the Signal' Elias puts a firm focus on the dance floor which sets the tone for the EP. Full of rejuvenating energies, the Montreal resident expertly blends robust kick drums and electric grooves with crunchy rhythms and orbiting effects. Roboticized vocals steal the air leading into the break, casting a darker monochrome over the journey, before a sensory expanding build cues a rush of main room alchemy. Rounding out the release are the hard hypnotic qualities of 'Construct'. Looking to bring greater depth to his portfolio, Elias flexes the techno-inspired side of his studio repertoire here, with a slow-burning quality where pneumatic energy and hyperbolic arps cruise into a timeless breakdown. Pitch-bending themes work in perfect unison across a glowing backdrop as the interlude evolves, shapeshifting forward into a forest of dystopian stabs, for a stomping finale to cap off the release on thunderous note.
