Sunlight Project aka Italian native Andrew Cash makes a welcome return to Bonzai Progressive with his outstanding new four-tracker entitled 'Checkmate'. It's been a while since we saw Andrew on the label with this one following his last outing here back in 2019 with 'X-Cape'. Since then, he's notched up quite an impressive catalogue of works across various labels. Over recent years, Andrew has established a strong presence in the niche between trance and progressive, known for his dreamy, uplifting melodies and consistent basslines, his productions have garnered widespread support from top DJs and artists such as Paul Van Dyk, Manuel Le Saux, Dash Berlin, and Armin Van Buuren. It's always exciting when his latest creations arrive at the office. The title track, 'Checkmate' opens the release with tight kick drums and manicured percussions alongside a deep rumbling bassline. Mesmerizing arpeggios fade up, laying the groundwork for a rush of euphoric melodies that wash over the groove adding emotion and warmth. The break reveals a sublime synth sequence, complimented with enchanting voices that take us to the drop and into the final act. A superb effort that will not disappoint. 'Epopea' is up next, laying down more uplifting goodness with a bright and melodic groove. Solid beats and flurries of rhythmic percussions lead the way as a powerful rolling bassline creates depth and warmth. A beautiful rendition, not to be missed. 'Nemesis' ramps up the energy levels with a brash, upfront groove filled with punchy kicks and shuffling percussions. The bassline pulses rhythmically alongside strong melodic plucks and airy vox. The groove lights up the floor with a flowing uplifting vibe that captivates the mind, taking you to the stratosphere and beyond. 'Astra' rounds out the release, delivering a strong bassline that chugs along effortlessly and delivering an energetic vibe. Tight beats and expertly crafted percussions liven up the groove as cool vocals add character to the sound. Hypnotic arps come through while trancey synths unleash infectious melodies that give off a truly uplifting vibe, making this a definite go to track.
