DJ T-1000 - Progress

Originally released back in 1999, on this reissue Tresor introduces DJ T-1000's debut album to a new generation of techno fans. Progress is a classic Detroit work. From DJ Bone's spoken word intro to the lean, linear minimalism of tracks like "Supernatural (Bangin')", "Pure Core" and "Semi-Destroyed", it defines the 'hard music from a hard city' aesthetic. At times, DJ T-1000 goes down a more abrasive route, as is the case on the bruising drum-led "Push". Counteracting this sound are deeper tracks, like the wonderfully soulful "Progress" and "Locomia" and "Marina", which effortlessly fuse evocative melodies with insistent, pulsating rhythms. And for the finale, DJ T-1000 conjures up the atmospheric soundtrack "Tonight" - a compelling end to a peerless Motor City album.
