543ff and Lenson are the latest producers to contribute to Pleistocene Future. In an unwitting reference to the first wave of Dutch crews such as Bunker who made raw, uncompromising techno back in the 90s, this four-tracker was recorded live. While not displaying the same acid or industrial tendencies as the previous generation, the duo still delivers a killer, peak-time selection. “Pkrst” is a tough, droning affair that teems with analogue intensity. Meanwhile on “Transition”, the duo delivers a head down banger, guided by tingling hi hats. “Violate”, with its abrasive riffs and tough minimal rhythm, sounds like their take on Detroit minimalism, with “Florence” offering a more considered but equally effective interpretation of this sound.
