Velour’s self-titled debut album delighted in blurring the boundaries between jazz, broken beat, trip-hop and deep house, delivering hard-to-pigeonhole tracks packed with with intricate arrangements and interesting instrumentation. Hulk Hodn’s deep, head-nodding instrumental hip-hop revision of ‘Tom’s Garage’ gets things off to a fine start, before Footshooter blends smoky sax sounds, fizzing synth riffs, enveloping chords and bustling broken beats on a triumphant version of ‘Into The Blue’. Label regular Frits Wentink opts for energetic walking bass and starry synths on his skewed house take on ‘Pose’, before Velour’s Vinzent Wirth delivers a deliciously deep jazz-house re-wire of ‘Luminate’.
