Sensawunda (Sense of wonder) is an expression used to indicate the typical sensation of wonder deliberately sought in works of science fiction, especially in relation to the Golden Age of Science Fiction of the 1940s and 1950s. Sensawunda is an emotional reaction that the reader has when confronted, tries to understand or is faced with an absolutely new and non-existent concept necessary to receive new information. It can be associated with the action of paradigm shift, a typical act of science fiction for which a futuristic technology and its bases are accepted in order to continue understanding the work or part of it. Sensawunda does not require complete understanding of the situation that causes it.
