Last year, Ejeca (real name Gerry McCartney) released the self-explanatory Hardcore / Rave Mixtape 001, a themed, non-stop, thrill-a-minute collection of his own productions in a retro-futurist, rave-igniting style. Here he repeats the exercise, only this time he's paying tribute to another sound that has come back around again: the chunky, loopy, disco-tinged and filter-heavy "French Touch" style made famous by Cassius, Daft Punk and co in the late '90s. McCartney's take on turn-of-the-century French house is well observed and authentic sounding, but still fresh enough to rebuff accusations of hollow nostalgia. The plentiful highlights include the Cassius-esque heaviness of 'The Rhythm', the F Communications style techno-disco pump of 'Galleria' and the Pepe Braddock-does-disco flex of 'Joyride'.
