House label founded in 1993 by Hisa Ishioka.
The name was inspired by Ishioka's previous label, BPM, and the Paradise Garage club, located at 84 King Street in New York City, which Ishioka frequented between 1985 and its closure in 1987.
The label name is often truncated to King Street or King Street Sounds. Please use King Street Sounds only when listed as such for copyright or licensing credits. BPM King Street Sounds was legally registered as a corporation on January 21, 1993 and is owned and distributed by Hi's Production USA, Inc. Sister labels Nite Grooves and Street King were established in 1994 and 2009 respectively. Vinyl releases subsequent to its move to digital-only in 2009 were via Slow To Speak, Prime Direct Distribution and Above Board Distribution.
