"Ancient Astronaut," released on the label Other People in 2014, is an experimental album that stands out in the IDM and Microhouse genres. The album is a sonic exploration of the ancient astronaut theory, which posits that extraterrestrials have influenced early human civilization. It presents a futuristic and abstract soundscape that is both surreal and psychedelic.
The album is divided into two distinct parts. Side A is lauded for its arid and mystical interpretation of IDM, reminiscent of Autechre but with a unique twist. It features a cryptic atmosphere with a tribal, ancient pulse that adds a layer of mystery to the compositions. The erratic boundaries of IDM are dynamically interspersed with sliding explosions of Acid Techno.
However, Side B takes a different approach with ambient tracks composed of long, almost silent, and colorless drones. This side has received mixed reviews, with some listeners finding it hard to perceive its allure, suggesting it serves more as filler than a deliberate artistic choice.
